Jim Anderton Misleads North
National MP John Carter’s accusing the Regional Development Minister of misleading the Northland community with hollow promises about key roading projects in the Hokianga.
“Jim Anderton’s been promising all sorts of things up this way for the past three years, he hasn’t been able to deliver on any of them,” Mr Carter says.
The latest criticism comes amid confusion over the construction of two vital bridges on the Hokianga.
“Jim Anderton told us the work would be paid for out of the 4c/litre petrol tax increase.
“Now we learn the money’s not available after all,” says Mr Carter
“I believe Helen Clark and Jim Anderton have misled the Hokianga, to get their hopes up like this, then do nothing, is simply despicable,” according to the Northland MP.
“Now Transfund says all it’ll pay for is some planning and consents work, but there’s no word on who’ll cough up for the capital.
“So now I’m challenging Jim Anderton to live up to his word.
“I’m after a firm commitment that when resource consents and planning’s been completed, the money for the Hokianga Bridges and associated roading will be made available,” Mr Carter says.
