Mr Rowan please give the Wallace family their money back
The private prosecution of Constable Keith Abbott was a travesty, says Pakuranga MP Maurice Williamson.
“When it was established there was no grounds for criminal proceedings the matter should have ended.
“Instead, the Wallace family were persuaded they had a chance of a conviction and so ensued an emotionally and
financially damaging court case. No one benefited except the lawyers.
“In civil cases an innocent party can seek, and be awarded, full costs. I hope that Constable Abbott and the Police
Association do just that.
“Rather than watching the Wallace family go even further into debt, I suggest their well-paid lawyers do two things:
Refund all their fees to the Wallace’s; and,
2. Pay Constable Abbott and the Police Association their full costs.”
