Local Government Bill Needs Full Consideration
New Zealand First is calling for the Local Government Bill to be given full consideration by Parliament. “This is a 400 page document and not all parties have been given time to consider all possible impacts on councils and rate payers. It seems that the Government is trying to sneak through this bill late in the session,” said Local Government spokesperson, Jim Peters.
“I am asking that when the bill returns to the House next week that it be extensively debated.
“This will allow Parties to be fully briefed about the implications of the bill before it goes to the committee of the house.
“Most importantly the impact on ratepayers and other citizens must be considered. More time must be given for all aspects of the bill to be studied,” said Mr Peters.
