ACC Ball Flat In Government Court
The Government looks set, once again, to reject calls from employers to reduce ACC levies," ACT New Zealand ACC
Spokesman Heather Roy said today.
"The Employers and Manufacturers' Association is up in arms claiming that the Government is about to reject calls for
reduced ACC levies for the third year in a row - but why is the Government not heeding these calls? Is the Government
stockpiling money in the employer account?" said Mrs Roy.
"ACC's Employer Account has just posted a $42 million surplus for 2002 - even after setting aside a whopping $172
million extra for the future cost of claims.
"ACC is already lax in its efforts to rehabilitate long-term claimants, and such moves by the Government do little or
nothing to improve the situation. The Employers and Manufacturers' Association simply wants the Government to fulfil its
fundamental obligation to help care for its workers and, with it, New Zealand industries. A Government rejection will
simply provide more evidence that the Labour Government does not care about its labour force at all," said Mrs Roy.
