Kedgley urges regional council to heed STV vote
Victory for the STV option in the Wellington referendum is great news for the city, Wellington Green MP Sue Kedgley said today.
"This will result in a fairer and more accountable council," said Ms Kedgley. "Once again Wellington is taking the lead with an innovative, honest and more representative voting system.
"I'm confident Wellingtonians will be delighted with the options that STV presents, when they get their first opportunity to vote under the system.
"The referendum result means that Wellington and Porirua city councils and the region's District Health Boards will all be elected under STV for the next election. The onus is now on the Wellington Regional Council to hold a referendum on using STV proportional representation to elect its members.
"It would be much easier to have the one electoral system throughout the Wellington region than to expect people to vote under completely systems."
