Poll writes off Winston’s extreme claims on immigration
“The One Network News poll on immigration tonight shows that most people think Winston Peter’s claims are inciting problems between different ethnic groups,” says National’s Ethnic Affairs Spokesperson Pansy Wong.
“Seventy percent of those asked believe Winston Peter’s over-the-top claims about race riots and other troubles are inciting problems to develop between different ethnic groups.
“This shows the public can see that his claims are not credible, and are a publicity stunt.
“Those who do agree with the issue Peters has raised agree only with his comments about the small number of immigrants who have been running scams. People have only got away with these scams because Immigration Minister Lianne Dalziel is not on top of her portfolio.
“This poll reflects the need for the Labour Government not to take a knee-jerk reaction to Peter’s anti-immigrants campaign, to act on immigration abuse, and to take the public onboard the review of immigration policies.
“New Zealanders do want to discuss immigration, but most people have simply written off Winston’s outrageous claims as not credible,” Mrs Wong.
