Audit Office Inquiry Welcomed
National’s Acting Broadcasting Spokesperson Murray McCully has welcomed the decision of the Auditor General to probe the expenditure related to the former chair of TVNZ, NZ Post and Industrial Research Ltd, Dr Ross Armstrong.
“The Auditor General has, on his own initiative, decided to do what the National Party has been asking the Government to do: ensure an independent review of expenditure across the three entities.”
“This is a serious blow for the Prime Minister who, as recently as yesterday, insisting that we should “move on.”
“She knows that the only reason that Dr Armstrong was beyond the discipline of SOE managers, officials and fellow directors was her patronage. No other New Zealander has ever been granted such a key role as a Prime Ministerial confidant, chair of three major public organisations and a prominent member of her overseas delegations.”
“I welcome the fact that the Auditor General is prepared to give us the inquiry that the Prime Minister has been so keen to avoid,”says Mr McCully.
