ACT Welcomes New Zealand Support for America
ACT New Zealand welcomes the Labour Government's decision to send the frigate HMNZS Te Kaha to the Gulf and a P3 Orion aircraft, ACT Leader Richard Prebble said today.
"Despite the Government's claim that this is purely to oppose the Taleban, in reality it is significant support for the United States and that country's ultimatum to Iraq. Nobody seriously believes that Osama bin Laden and his Taleban fighters are now in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman.
"Just as New Zealand sent a frigate to the Gulf War against Iraq, this frigate will serve a similar role in any American invasion of Iraq.
"While ACT New Zealand would prefer the Government to be upfront, we still welcome even this backdoor support," Mr Prebble said.
