Extend the Transport Bill to the Auckland/Harbour Highway
Monday 28 Oct 2002 Richard Prebble Press Releases -- Transport
Its time the government built a four lane highway from Auckland to Hamilton. The 20 kilometre traffic jam on Labour weekend is simply unacceptable, ACT Leader Richard Prebble said today.
"It is absurd that the police should be put in a position to be calling for a lawful popular event like the Rotary National drag racing meet at Meremere to be cancelled because the roads are not adequate.
"The road from Auckland to Hamilton is congested now every day.
"The government's new transport bill that is supposed to solve Auckland's roading crisis should be extended to cover the road to Hamilton.
"I am going to write to the Prime Minister this week saying the ACT party wants the bill's fast track provisions to be extended to cover the road to Hamilton," Mr Prebble said.
