Concern For Wounded Kiwi Soldiers
New Zealand First has expressed sympathy and concern for the Kiwi SAS soldiers injured in Afghanistan yesterday.
“It is undoubtedly a distressing time for the families of the three soldiers wounded in Afghanistan but we are proud of
the team and appreciate their efforts in ensuring our safety and security,” said Defence spokesperson Ron Mark.
“Soldiers will be the first to tell you that the prospect of being killed or wounded comes with the job. They put their
safety and their lives on the line without a second thought, but we should not let that take anything away from their
obvious courage and the huge contribution that they make in the service of their country.”
Coming so soon after El Alamein commemorations, the incident was a further reminder that New Zealand will always need
robust defence forces and highly professional personnel, said Mr Mark.
“The support for global stability and security by New Zealand’s defence forces is recognised around the world. Their
contribution should never be minimised, under-valued or under-funded,” said Mr Mark.
“It is timely to reflect on what we ask soldiers to do for us and based on that, what our obligations are to them.”
