Heads must now roll over rotting home crisis
Hon Bill English - National Party Leader
National no longer has confidence in the Building Industry Authority following the continuing damaging revelations coming from the ongoing investigation into the rotting home crisis, says National Party Leader Bill English.
“It is clear the BIA were first alerted to the rotting home situation at least 3 years ago. They have a statutory obligation to inform the Minister. Yet if George Hawkins is to be believed he was not told until 30 April of this year.
“Only a year ago the BIA described talk of a rotting home crisis as just media hype. They had a perfect opportunity to inform homeowners what was really going on and they chose not to.
“The behaviour of the BIA gives no confidence to home owners or the building industry it now blames for the crisis. National believes it has reached the point where the only way for public confidence in the BIA to be restored is for heads to roll,” says Mr English.
