Transport Minister Paul Swain welcomed United Future MP Larry Baldock’s support of the government’s package of road safety initiatives released on Tuesday, but wanted to clarify a statement in Mr Baldock’s media release.
In his media release yesterday Mr Baldock states that - “revenue that is collected from fuel excise taxes and Road User Charges is still being siphoned off into the consolidated fund.”
“While it is true that part of the excise tax on petrol (18.475 cents a litre excl GST) goes into the consolidated fund, all Road User Charges revenue goes into the National Roads Fund, where it is spent exclusively on the country’s land transport network,” said Mr Swain.
