Ogilvy seeks NCEA inquiry
United Future New Zealand MP, Bernie Ogilvy, believes it’s time to stop treating the nation’s secondary school students
like guinea pigs, year after year.
The Party’s education spokesman, Mr Ogilvy, tonight told the secondary teachers’ annual conference in Wellington that he
will be seeking a Parliamentary select committee inquiry into the implementation of Level One of the National
Certificate for Educational Achievement (NCEA) for secondary school students.
Mr Ogilvy said he had written to Brian Donnelly, MP, chairman of Parliament’s education and science select committee,
seeking to have the question of an inquiry placed on the committee’s agenda.
“For some time, many parents, teachers and students have expressed serious misgivings about the NCEA,” said Mr Ogilvy,
“and if the implementation of Level 2 is to have any chance of success, we need to identify what has caused these
misgivings with Level 1 this year.
“I hope the members of the select committee will see this as an opportunity to get to the bottom of the problems,
surrounding NCEA, so as to ensure these children are not treated like guinea pigs, year after year,” he said.
