Wanted: Immigration advisory group nominations
Nominations for the government’s Ministerial Advisory Group on Immigration (MAG) and Refugee sub-group are being called
for, Immigration Minister Lianne Dalziel announced today.
The MAG was established in the year 2000 as a forum to discuss issues around the settlement of migrants, and other
barriers to achieving the government’s immigration policy objectives. Ten members were initially appointed (six were
appointed to the MAG and four to the Refugee sub-group) for a two-year term which ends on 31 December 2002.
“This representative group of community views has been an invaluable sounding board for me on the government’s
immigration policy. It has also been a source of feedback on where policy does and doesn’t work well.
“The current membership has worked extremely well. I am keen to see the MAG’s valuable work continue, and am inviting
expressions of interest for the next term.
“As in the previous term, I am looking for members with a keen interest and experience in immigration and
refugee-related issues. I am seeking nominees who will add creative ideas as well as relevant expertise to the meetings.
I am hoping organisations will take a collaborative approach with nominations, to enable the appointment of people able
to network with a range of organisations or associations within their sector,” Lianne Dalziel said.
