Let children be children
Hon Bill English - National Party Leader
We must let our children be children, said National Party Leader Bill English, responding to a radio station promotion in Palmerston North that emulates the TV reality series Big Brother.
“I can understand why the 10 year olds have put their names forward when the draw card is a trip to Disneyland.
“A ten year old is only ten years old. They should not be placed into a situation that they have not got the maturity to deal with.
“Some people may think such views are old fashioned. I believe we need to protect our children, not exploit them for commercial gain.
“Every adult should be alarmed at the growing reports of internet manipulation of children. There is a point where adults need to say enough is enough and I would ask the organisers of the Palmerston North radio station to think again about just what they are encouraging, “says Mr English.
