Minister clearly embarrassed
Social Services Minister Steve Maharey is clearly embarrassed about social service papers he has released late today, says Nationals Deputy Leader Roger Sowry.
"That is the only explanation why the Minister would release post election briefings at 4pm on a Sunday in an attempt to ensure Welfare Advocacy groups would not notice his failures.
"There has been no progress on the issues that matter such as child poverty. Also the papers show that special needs grants are up by over 16 per cent over the last two years.
"Labour promised so much and delivered little to welfare groups. While the Prime Minister travels around the world, her Social Services Minister tries to sweep his failings to the poor under the carpet.
"That is not good enough and National will make sure such cynical events are continued to be brought to the attention of the public, " says Mr Sowry.
