Maharey Must Release THOTT Review
Wednesday 4 Sep 2002
Desperate court action against Te Hauora o Te Tai Tokerau (THOTT) by Social Services and Employment Minister Steve Maharey reveals the Minister has mismanaged the debacle, ACT Social Welfare Spokesman Dr Muriel Newman said today.
"Since concerns about THOTT were first raised, Mr Maharey has made glib assurances that Child, Youth and Family money would be recovered.
"The fact that he has today directed CYF to take High Court legal action to halt the sale of assets by THOTT reveals that Mr Maharey's slick answers have not been grounded in reality.
"I call on Mr Maharey to publicly release all internal documents reviewing THOTT's performance. If he cannot do so, the impression will remain that the Minister has paid more attention to putting a good spin on this mess than recovering taxpayer money and ensuring families in need receive help," Dr Newman said.
