Nandor Tanczos Setting A Disgraceful Example For Young New Zealanders
“Green Party MP Nandor Tanczos’ private member’s bill seeking to decriminalise cannabis use is short sighted and poses significant problems,” NZ First MP, Craig McNair, said today.
“Mr Tanczos fails to recognise that cannabis use leads to social disorder, crime, and mental health problems for young people”.
“Allowing adults to legally grow small amounts of cannabis for personal use will make it easier for young people to gain access to cannabis as many will follow the example of their parents, as they do with tobacco and alcohol already,” said Mr McNair.
“Mr Tanczos’ plan for an age limit of 18 for cannabis use is dangerous. We have already seen that the lowering of the drinking age from 20 to 18 has increased consumption among young people in their early teens, who are now regularly being picked up by police for being intoxicated”.
“Mr Tanzcos is a negative role model for the youth of this country as he has created an image that it is ‘cool’ to use cannabis despite the social and health risks. Wouldn’t it be good to see our parliamentarians promoting healthy activities and lifestyles?” concluded Mr McNair.
