ACT sees Telecom's move to charge for false 111 calls as consistent with personal responsibility and Zero Tolerance says ACT's Justice spokesman Stephen Franks.
"Although making a false 111 call is against the law, 70% of calls to 111 are false. Children make many of those calls. It is absurd having laws which are not are or cannot be enforced. This offence seems to have been considered not worth enforcing.
"ACT is delighted there will now be some sanction and incentive for parents to make sure even in this small area there is no message that youngsters can flout the law.
"ACT applauds cost effective sanctions that focus where the true emphasis must go on restoring a consequence for entry-level offending," Stephen Franks said.
