Election Update Reveals True Size of Government
Tuesday 25 Jun 2002 Rodney Hide Press Releases -- Economy
ACT Finance Spokesman Rodney Hide said that the Pre-Election Economic and Fiscal Update (Pre-EFU) revealed that the Government in New Zealand is consuming a staggering 43.2 percent of the New Zealand economy.
The updated figures include state-owned enterprises to reveal for the first time the extent of Government.
"The Pre-EFU highlights the need for Government to follow ACT's advice and to set clear priorities in terms of Government spending: security of the individual, defence and education.
"Too much money is being wasted on peripheral issues like Maori Television and businesses like the Kiwibank that should be left to the private sector.
