Evening Post Article Erroneous In Every Respect
Reporter Knew It Before The Article Went To Print.
“The Evening Post article of 21 June, headlined ‘NZ First struggles to contest Maori seats’ is erroneous in every respect, New Zealand First leader Winston Peters said.
“The Party’s Board of Directors is meeting on candidate nominations and other matters next Monday. Meetings with Maoridom around the country have been organised for next week. When the Board has met and the meetings have been completed a press statement will be issued.”
Mr. Peters said that if he couldn’t find twenty Maori candidates better than the current crop in Parliament then “New Zealand First would not have taken the Maori seats off Labour in the first place.”
He said that he hoped that, in this campaign, he would not have to deal with “mindless speculation that is not worth the paper it is printed on.”
