Rongotai Greens launch campaign
Green Rongotai candidate Celia Wade-Brown and Green co-leader Rod Donald will launch the Rongotai campaign with a fundraising breakfast at the Island Bay Surf Club tomorrow from 8.30am.
The morning will start with an optional yoga session at 8.30am, breakfast and coffee at 9.30 and speeches from Rod and Celia from 10.15. Mr Donald will focus on Fair Trade issues about coffee and other imports while Celia will focus on the local campaign.
In 1999, the Greens polled 7.7 per cent in Rongotai. In 2001, almost half the voters cast one of their votes for Celia as a Green, electing her as the Southern Ward's highest polling councillor.
"Many locals are keen to see central government become Greener. Voters can deliver a strong environmental message by giving the Greens their vote," said Ms Wade-Brown.
"Future campaign events planned include Newtown, Strathmore, Miramar and Kilbirnie, but we're starting very local," said Ms Wade-Brown.
Celia has lived in Island Bay since 1983.
