Extra Funding for Ethnic Affairs Another Cost of Government's Immigration Policies
Monday 13 May 2002
The announcement of another $700,000 for the Office of Ethnic Affairs is yet another sign of the true cost of this government's immigration policies, ACT leader Richard Prebble says.
"On the one hand, the Minister of Immigration, when announcing extra immigrants, claimed it would boost the economy, while on the other hand we find the Ethnic Affairs Minister justifying the extra $700,000 for an office New Zealand didn't believe it needed until two years ago.
"If the government was more careful in its selection of immigrants, this $700,000 wouldn't need to be spent," Mr Prebble said.
