Wellington Central MP Marian Hobbs has welcomed the government's approval for a new regional hospital in Newtown as part
of major redevelopments of health services in the Wellington region.
"It's been a long time coming and as local MP I am pleased to have been part of the coalition government that has
achieved this result," Marian Hobbs said. "We will see building work at Wellington Hospital commence towards the end of
this year and that will bear testimony to the fact that this government is making things happen."
Marian Hobbs said local city communities as well as the wider Wellington region will benefit.
"The focus will be on more services closer to people's homes including increased day surgery and day medical services
and other outpatient services," Marian Hobbs said. "I am also pleased that windows and plaques from the Wellington
Hospital Nurses' Chapel will be incorporated in the new facilities.
"I congratulate the Capital and Coast District Health Board and all those who have been involved in getting us to this
point."
