Kevin Campbell, Alliance MP On Party Split

Published: Wed 3 Apr 2002 04:55 PM
Jim Anderton has given his commitment to lead the Parliamentary team through to the next election. I support him in that and will continue to work constructively with the other Alliance MPs in Parliament under the leadership of Jim Anderton. It is sad that efforts to bridge the rift in the Alliance have not succeeded. My colleagues and I now have to focus on the reality of a split Alliance.
In regard to my own situation, I intend to consult particularly with Alliance members and voters associated with my election and role as an Alliance list MP, and work through the consequences of this decision. I will reassure people that we will continue to represent the policies we were elected into Parliament on.
