Alec Neill National List MP for Wigram
20 March 2002
Wigram deserves better than Alliance antics
Alec Neill, National's List MP for Wigram today expressed his disappointment that the Wigram electorate had become a
central issue in the Alliance dispute.
"It is no secret that Mr Anderton and the Alliance are struggling, but persistent suggestions that the only reason the
Alliance need Mr Anderton is for the seat of Wigram is disappointing," Mr Neill commented.
"As National's Member of Parliament for Wigram, I regard representing constituents as my number one priority. It is sad
that the Alliance see Mr Anderton's electorate role merely as a backdoor into Parliament. Wigram deserves better than
these kind of antics.
"National's campaign for Wigram is well underway and we are getting positive feedback from the electorate. I have had
calls to my Electorate Office concerned that Mr Anderton is more interested in remaining the Deputy Prime Minister in
Wellington rather than being the local Member in Wigram.
"If the Alliance tosses Jim Anderton out National is ready to fight a by-election in Wigram. Jim Anderton and the
Alliance should not take Wigram for granted. My commitment to Wigram is total and I intend to win this seat for
National," Alec Neill concluded.
