Maharey's Comments Complete Rubbish

Published: Mon 18 Mar 2002 12:25 AM
The Prime Minister needs to tell her message boy, Steve Maharey to think straight before making comments, says National Party Leader Bill English.
" It is complete rubbish for message boy Maharey to suggest I am in America trying to cause trouble for New Zealand when in fact just the opposite is true.
"My visit to America was planned 6 months ago, I am here at the invitation of the Governor of Colorado and tomorrow will give a keynote address at a major Science and Technology conference.
"Unlike the Prime Minister, my visit is more about building strong relationships with key sector groups who can help the New Zealand economy rather than just another photo opportunity.
"It is outrageous for Mr Maharey to warn me about what I may or may not talk about. The control freak nature of the Prime Minister is bad enough, obviously her attitude is contagious and can I tell Mr Maharey his arrogant attitude holds no credibility.
"The very reason I entered Parliament in the first place was because I have the best interests of New Zealand at heart, and after 10 years I can assure you nothing has changed," says Mr English.
