Maori TV appointment "nuts"
The decision to appoint a Canadian as chief executive of the Maori Television Service is nuts, says National MP, Murray McCully.
"The service was established because the Waitangi Tribunal said the Government had to set up Maori TV to protect the Maori language.
"So they are giving $55 million a year to a man who can't speak Maori to promote the Maori language. It all goes to show what a farce the whole exercise has become," says Mr McCully.
