National's Adoption Of ACT Zoning Policy Is Welcome
ACT Education Spokesman MP Donna Awatere Huata today welcomed the National Party's adoption of ACT policy on school zoning.
"I am delighted Mr English has recognised that elitist, racist school zoning must go. His announcement today that National is to adopt ACT policy on zoning will be welcome news to parents around the country. Over-worked teachers and over-burdened principals will be relieved that one of the two old parties is publicly recognising the harm of zoning.
"I have campaigned fiercely against zoning, which particularly harms low-income working New Zealand families, Maori and Pacific Islanders. The support of Mr English is welcome.
"Of course, repealing zoning is only the beginning. ACT New Zealand is determined to bring choice to every New Zealand parent and child. After repealing zoning, we will work to ensure that all funding is child-centred, resourcing is flexible, and good teachers are rewarded. If the National party continues in today's direction, then education in New Zealand can only get better," Mrs Awatere Huata said.
