Racing Bill Causes Concern

Published: Tue 26 Feb 2002 01:07 PM
New Zealand First Leader, Winston Peters, today expressed concern about the proposed racing legislation currently before Parliament.
“The lack of an economic impact report on the bill’s likely affects mean that Parliament will be flying blind,” Mr Peters said.
“This is a vital New Zealand industry, but significant issues relating to disparities between different forms of gambling and taxation and duties have not been dealt with.
“New Zealand First will continue to consult widely with industry groups and will then propose its own legislative solutions,” Mr Peters said.
