Marlborough Council Needs To Get Real

Published: Thu 14 Feb 2002 10:09 AM
The Marlborough Council is kneecapping local businesses and the New Zealand economy by imposing a Green agenda on inter-island ferries, ACT Transport Spokesman MP Penny Webster said today.
"The Marlborough Council needs to get real. Ferries are a part of State Highway One. They are a vital cargo link between the North and South Islands.
"If they continue to impose an extremist agenda, the Clifford Bay Terminal will be built sooner, rather than later. Then Blenheim and Picton will lose the travellers and tourist cash that keeps the small towns alive.
"The council is acting in an irresponsible fashion, hijacking New Zealand's economy and threatening local business owners," Mrs Webster said.
