Too Late to Scrutinise Hawaiki Funding
Monday 11 Feb 2002 Penny Webster Press Releases -- Broadcasting
It is far too late to scrutinise payments to Tukoroirangi Morgan, ACT Broadcasting Spokesman MP Penny Webster said today.
"The time for scrutiny has passed. The public is nervous about Maori broadcasting. Even Mr Morgan has said that he can see `why the public has concerns'. It appears that only the Minister of Maori Affairs was so naïve he couldn't see this scandal coming.
"Scrutiny should have taken place in the Ministers' offices before the contract was let, not after it hit the news. The Ministers, and not Tukoroirangi Morgan, are to blame for this controversy, and they were perfectly capable of avoiding it," Mrs Webster said.
