The Leader of the Opposition, Bill English, extends on behalf of the National Party his deepest condolences to Her Majesty The Queen on the passing of her sister, Princess Margaret.
Bill English said that Princess Margaret played an important part in creating the image of the modern royal family and, as the sister of the Queen, had a special place in the hearts of New Zealanders.
National also extends condolences to the Queen Mother on the death of Princess Margaret.
"New Zealanders' sympathies will be with the Queen who must bear this loss as she marks her 50th anniversary on the throne this year," said Mr English.
"It will no doubt add poignancy to the Queen's visit here later this month, and I am sure that New Zealanders will show the Queen their loyalty and affection.
