Health Minister Covers Up Ballooning Deficit

Published: Wed 23 Jan 2002 11:03 AM
It is no surprise that the country's district health boards will be running up a combined deficit of $220 million, National's Health spokesperson Roger Sowry said today.
"The only person who doesn't seem to realise it is Health Minister Annette King who has spent months evading the real figures.
"Annette King said only last month that the deficit would be under $100 million and claimed National's $215 million deficit was 'peddling misery'.
"This Minister clearly either doesn't know what's going on out there with the boards or is hiding the truth. Annette King has refused to answer questions from National and the media about the growing deficit. She has been evasive and treated Parliament with contempt in the way she has dealt with this issue," Mr Sowry said.
