Vindictive Government Blocks ACT from Air Force Farewell
Wednesday 12 Dec 2001 Owen Jennings Press Releases -- Foreign Affairs & Defence
The refusal by the Labour/Alliance Coalition Government to allow ACT to take up National's generous offer to use one of their seats on an aircraft going to Ohakea for the laying up of the air combat Squadron's colours is pathetic, ACT Defence Spokesman Owen Jennings said today.
"This petty action reflects the embarrassment of the Government to the discovery that the majority of New Zealanders strongly disagree with abandoning the air force's air combat.
"It is clear that the Government does not want the ACT party to be present at this solemn function. The Government is abusing its power. There is no place in New Zealand for such silly vindictiveness.
"The ACT party is the only party being denied the opportunity to salute the proud and successful record of our air combat personnel," Mr Jennings said.
