Board For New Manurewa East Secondary School Appointed
Five Manurewa/Papakura residents have been appointed to the establishment board of trustees for the new secondary school
at Manurewa East.
The board members are
- Bernie Clarke
- Maureen Hilyard
- Karen Le Gallais
- Selwyn Manning
- Thomas Vanderlaan
Nominations for the board were sought from local schools, Manurewa and Papakura residents, community groups, the
territorial local authorities and local MPs.
“The members of the board were chosen because of the skills and backgrounds that each is expected to bring to the
establishment of the school. I am pleased that the board reflects the local community.
The establishment board appoints the principal and other staff, as well as determining policy for the school and putting
in place sound governance practices.
The board will be in place until an elected board can take office. School elections are likely to be held in mid-2004.
The school is being established to cater for secondary-age children in the new Manurewa East housing developments and to
take pressure off other local secondary schools. It will open progressively with one level at a time starting with Form
3 (Year 9).
Initially the new school will have classrooms to accommodate about 600 students, but more classrooms will be added as
roll numbers increase.
