All Inquiries To The Department Of Corrections Treated Equally
“I am aware of the correspondence specified between my Associate Minister, Tariana Turia, and the Department of Corrections. And I am of course aware of the correspondence from the Associate Minister directly to myself as Minister of Corrections,” says Corrections Minister Matt Robson.
“I have always instructed my department to treat any inquiry or request from a Minister, in the same way that they would treat an inquiry from a Member of Parliament or a member of the general public.
“I am confident that my department has always responded appropriately and within the law.
“As far as I am aware, the Associate Minister has declared on one occasion a connection with an inmate who was placed with her by the Department of Social Welfare when he was 15 years old. I am not aware of any conflict of interest.
“I will be discussing this issue further with the Prime Minister and my department.
“I will continue to work with my Associate Minister to ensure that appropriate procedures and processes are followed,” says Matt Robson.
