Sihk community to raise safety concerns with Minister
Alliance Minister Matt Robson will be attending a meeting organised by Auckland's Sikh community to hear their community
safety concerns following the horrific terrorist attacks in the United States.
The Sihk community will hold a special prayer ceremony at the Sihk Temple in honour of the victims of last week's
attacks in New York and Washington.
"The Sihk community is fearful of reprisals from New Zealanders sickened by the events in the United States, just
because they look different, says Matt Robson.
"They have invited me to attend the prayer ceremony and to hear their concerns.
"New Zealanders are a tolerant people. We must remind ourselves that many migrants to this country fled religious
persecution and oppression at the hands of fundamentalists and extremists.
"It is irresponsible for any political party leaders to feed of this fear."
