New Zealanders Furious At Snubbing Of The USA

Published: Thu 20 Sep 2001 10:30 AM
Many New Zealanders are hurt and angered by the attitudes from Labour, Alliance and the Greens following the terrorist atrocities last week, ACT Defence Spokesman MP Owen Jennings said today.
"New Zealanders are furious that Helen Clark has snubbed the USA at a time when our country needs to reflect the closeness and sympathy that once characterised our relationship with our western allies.
"This Government is carefully executing a cold and calculating path to isolationism, with defence forces to concentrate on 'peace keeping' only.
"New Zealanders are staggered by the Government's callous and ideological stance toward a country many of us see as the bastion of liberty and the market economy.
"Anti-USA sentiment is juvenile and dangerous. It is foolish for New Zealand to be the only western nation to be so arrogant as to turn its back on the USA," Owen Jennings said.
