Commerce Committee Reports On Telecommunications Bill

The Commerce Committee has presented its report to Parliament on the Telecommunications Bill.
“The Commerce Committee has examined the Telecommunications Bill and recommends that the bill be passed with the
amendments shown,” said Chairperson David Cunliffe.
The Telecommunications Bill was referred to the committee on 9 May 2001. The closing date for submissions was 13 June
2001. The committee received and considered 31 submissions from interested groups and individuals plus a number of
supplementary submissions. The committee heard 21 submissions, which included holding hearings in Auckland. The
committee by leave received and heard two submissions in private. Hearing evidence took 12 hours and 20 minutes and
consideration took 26 hours and 52 minutes.
