Alliance Will Cover Cost Of Bank Postcard

Published: Thu 30 Aug 2001 04:12 PM
The Alliance will pay the costs associated with a postcard promoting the kiwi bank policy, Alliance leader Jim Anderton said today.
The Speaker has rejected a breach of privilege complaint lodged over the issue, but Jim Anderton says he accepts that wording on the postcard was not good enough.
"The postcard was distributed as part of a campaign to communicate with the public about this major public policy.
"I strongly believe it is important to provide information about policy. But I also accept that the postcard should have said 'please send me more information about the people's bank' rather than 'please send me information on setting up an account at the people's bank.'
"For that reason I went to see the Speaker and informed him that the Alliance would refund the costs involved," Jim Anderton said.
