Anderton's New Conference Is A Waste Of Money

Published: Wed 8 Aug 2001 11:09 AM
The Knowledge Wave conference didn't deliver the message the Government wanted to hear so now Jim Anderton is going to waste public money on another forum, ACT MP Owen Jennings said today.
"We've had enough of the conferences. It's time for Mr Anderton to start listening to what New Zealand and the rest of the World is saying: there is a formula for success, and it is the opposite to what the Labour-Alliance coalition is doing," Owen Jennings said.
"The Government's new answer to every problem is to hold a conference, invite a few dignitaries and have a talk-fest.
"At the Knowledge Wave Conference, the Government heard - and rejected - ideas that would get our country back on track.
"Instead of paying any attention at Knowledge Wave, it turns out Mr Anderton spent his time dreaming up his own forum.
"It is obscene that the Deputy Prime Minister wants to waste the taxpayer's money on another conference.
"The Alliance leader needs to get his nose out of the public trough.
"This conference will be nothing but a monument to Mr Anderton's ego," Owen Jennings said.
