Hodgson: The End Of The World Is Nigh!

Published: Thu 12 Jul 2001 04:02 PM
Attempting to halt natural changes in the planet's climate is pointless and absurd, ACT MP Gerry Eckhoff said today. "It does however give the Greens an excuse for existing.
"Pete Hodgson is finally getting the message that ratifying the Kyoto Protocol will achieve nothing but increase hardship to the less well-off in society.
"Despite this, he continues to scream that the end of the world is nigh. He should quit the rhetoric and get himself a sandwich board.
"Our planet's climate will continue to change, as it has done from day one. Global warming is an invention that creates jobs for pseudo-scientists who fancy a career in 'abstract projections of the inevitable'.
"The Kyoto Protocol is a flawed document that is designed to deal with an invented problem. Half the world has either rejected this agreement, or has never been required to sign up to it.
"Of most concern to New Zealanders is Mr Hodgson's steadfast refusal to quantify - in real terms - the costs of complying with this absolutely flawed agreement.
"That's because he knows it will cost a fortune, and have no beneficial effects. Mr Hodgson is snuggling up to cultist environmentalist groups who have replaced traditional religious beliefs with this new form of religion, where the mantra is 'save the World from the sin of resource use'", Mr Eckhoff said.
