Northland MP requests Dr Parry inquiry
National's Northland MP John Carter today requested a full select committee inquiry into the many unresolved issues surrounding Dr Graham Parry - the disgraced Northland gynaecologist who recently won the battle to resume practising in the region.
"With the support of my colleagues Dr Lynda Scott and Dr Paul Hutchison, I have decided to approach the Health Select Committee requesting them to conduct a full select committee inquiry.
"For some time now I have been working with parliamentary colleagues Sue Bradford and Phillida Bunkle on this matter.
"We have approached the Government via the Minister of Health asking for the Government to undertake an inquiry. To date I have not received a formal response but verbal indications suggest the Government would not be prepared to conduct an inquiry into this matter.
"Ms Bradford and Ms Bunkle agree that if we can't get full Government support for an inquiry then it should be done at a select committee level.
"The women involved with the Dr Graham Parry case deserve a proper hearing. A full select committee inquiry would allow them to have their views heard in an official forum.
"I am confident that given the select committee is currently carrying out an inquiry into matters surrounding cannabis laws, it will agree to this inquiry with swiftness," Mr Carter said.
