Sue Kedgley's attempt to kill debate on the Land Transport Safety Authority discussion document is unfair and lacks
common sense, ACT MP Penny Webster said today.
"Ms Kedgley today called on the Transport Minister to reject proposals in the LTSA discussion document before anybody
even has an opportunity to have their say.
"Trucks keep New Zealand's economy moving. Increasing the size of trucks is a valid proposal that merits further
discussion. LTSA sensibly recommends that bigger trucks would only be allowed on key highways - something that Ms
Kedgley totally ignores.
"Maybe Ms Kedgley is unaware of the amount of produce moved by trucks about the country, or the dependence of rural and
provincial New Zealand on trucks. The rail network is not up to scratch. It can not cope with the demands that Ms
Kedgley wants to place on it.
"Ms Kedgley must stop trying to undermine the trucking debate - dialogue must be allowed with all of the industries and
interested parties that depend on trucking," Penny Webster said.
