The Greens Can’t Have It Both Ways - Peters

Published: Thu 7 Jun 2001 12:49 AM
The Rt Hon Winston Peters MP, Leader of New Zealand First, today said that the Green’s concerns about Labour and New Zealand First consulting over superannuation were hypocritical given the numerous times the Greens and Labour have consulted over major issues – as one would expect under MMP.
“Or is it just that Rod Donald only considers consultation a closed door meeting when New Zealand First is involved? MMP requires parties meeting constructively over key issues and that is exactly what Labour and New Zealand First are doing over the superannuation issue.
“Having spit the dummy over this issue Mr Donald and the Greens now seem to resent Labour consulting with anyone else to try and seek agreement. You can’t have it both ways Rod!” said Mr Peters.
Mr Peters said that unlike the Greens New Zealand First is not a political doormat.
