Funding Of Greenies Fisheries Input A Mad Precedent
Monday 21st May 2001
ACT Finance spokesman Rodney Hide today slammed Fisheries Minister Pete Hodgson’s proposal to fund greenie pressure groups out of the Ministry of Fisheries’ budget.
“This is dopey. The greens don’t want to develop a sustainable fishery. They want to shut it down.
“Fisheries management is going to lose this money to political pressure groups. The only reason that Pete Hodgson is going along with this madness is that it’s the price the taxpayer must pay to keep the Greens supporting the government.
“I suppose Pete Hodgson thinks at $50,000 it’s cheap enough. But what’s next? On this logic, the government will soon be funding greenie groups to harangue developers under the Resource Management Act, as if there wasn’t enough damage being done now,” concluded Rodney Hide.
