Communities And Children Benefit From Green Initiatives
The Green Party today welcomed the second series of pre-budget announcements of Green initiatives.
"These are all relatively small projects in dollar terms, but each one will help to steer in New Zealand in a
sustainable direction," said co-leader Rod Donald.
"We've spent a lot of time and effort refining these projects so that they nourish communities and foster a love of the
environment which will inspire people to look after it for future generations.
The three Green initiatives announced are:
* $500,000 over two years for environmental awareness in schools (securing roll-over funding for last year's Green
initiative)
* $150,000 this year for organic gardens in urban schools (new project)
* $100,000 this year for community internship programme (new project)
"The Green Party is delighted that the Government has recognised the potential of these initiatives, and has agreed to
fund them. This year's Green initiatives have built on the co-operative working relationship that we set up in the last
budget.
