Thanks A Million, ACT

Published: Tue 8 May 2001 11:40 AM
ACT Conservation Spokesman MP Gerry Eckhoff today lauded the partnership of Transpower and Landcare Trust.
“Marian Hobbs said yesterday that the sponsorship idea originated from a suggestion I made to a Select Committee.
“I am delighted that the suggestion has transpired in a donation from Transpower to Landcare of over one million dollars for three years.
“This is an excellent example of how ACT’s approach to the environment works. And this is only the beginning.
“Corporations understand the need to support organisations such as Landcare – not just with platitudes, but also with substantial funding. ACT believes that we should encourage such partnerships, which help the conservation without draining the taxpayer.
“While Landcare may be relatively new to some people, I have been involved with the conservation organisation for sixteen years – dating back to when ‘conservation’ was a very unfashionable word.
“I welcome this example of core ACT policy in action,” Gerry Eckhoff said.
