Increased Independence Of Police Necessary Step To Maximise Public Confidence - Peters
The Rt Hon Winston Peters MP, Leader of New Zealand First, today welcomed government decisions designed to enhance the independence of the Police Complaints Authority.
“After year of calling for such a move, New Zealand First is pleased to see the Government taking the necessary steps to maximise public confidence and trust in the New Zealand Police,” said Mr Peters.
Mr Peters suggested that other top professions, which are not monitored and judged by independent bodies, should follow the Police’s example.
“For too long too many key New Zealand professions have been perceived as covering for their own – even when those perceptions were not necessarily based on fact,” said Mr Peters.
